President's Message

Korea Flexible&Printed Electronics Association (KoPEA)

Soon Kug, Hong, President of KoPEA

President
Materials & Production Engineering Research Institute

Korea Flexible&Printed Electronics Association (KoPEA), formerly launched as Korea Printed Electronics Council in 2008, started its business to boost the development of the printed electronics industry based on collaborations between industry, academy, and research institution, which would become one of the world leading industries and new growth engines in Korea.

The printed electronics industry has been growing while gaining an increasing attention across the world. Our main goal is to support and promote the printed electronics industry and we will try to develop into one of the country’s leading industries in the future by means of strategic policies and intercorporate networking.

Based on its cost-effective and large-area mass production, the printed electronics technology, dubbed as "next industrial revolution" and "paradigm shift in manufacturing," features high-resolution, high-precision, and eco-friendly manufacturing. This technology is applied to a wide range of industries such as display, light, memory, and solar cell, a promising technology with a global market. As the printed electronics industry entered into a growing stage across the world, it’s important to set up domestic market and achieve global market dominance through strategic technology development.

In terms of cross-border competition, especially among Japan, U.S., and EU, there are an increasing number of research institutions and companies which develop printing technology and chemical materials in order to secure the next-generation technology which would greatly affect the economy. In Korea, printed electronics technology is widely applied to many areas such as display, solar cell, and sensors, replacing the former process.

It’s very encouraging that printed electronics was selected as one of "the six leading technologies in the future," where government and private fund jointly invested about 150 million dollars for seven years from 2012 and supported them in terms of staff and research development.

KoPEA will concentrate on technology accumulation by developing core parts and materials, and stimulate cooperation among industry, academy, institution, and government, based on its eco-friendly and convergent nature. We also try to lead international standards in cooperation with other countries such as EU, Japan and U.S. for continuous development. The government and the National Assembly strive to create an ecosystem for the printed electronics industry, which resulted in the establishment of KoPEA.

KoPEA's motto is "to establish an international mecca for the printed electronics industry." Following semiconductor and display, the printed electronics industry in Korea would lead the world, and it would serve as an economic engine for the next generation. We will commit ourselves to the development of the Korea's printed electronic industry. If we do our best, our dream will come true.

Thank you.

President of KoPEA
Soon Kug, Hong
